Welcome!
I'm starting this blog because of my love of gardening, and as a place to keep a record of the transformation of my garden. It will also be a place where I can keep information easily accessible, for myself and for others.
I use organic gardening techniques, and I began gardening here with effectively no budget. I will be exploring how I have renovated the garden, how I continue to improve it, and why I chose the techniques and solutions that I do. I will also be looking at some things from the Medieval time period, and some from England that I find interesting or possible useful, to either myself or my readers.
About the Windy Garden -
The soil is clay, and the land is on a hillside facing north-north-west. A previous owner had been a gardener, and planted many perennial flowers, so there was a bit already here. It had been dealing with benign neglect for a few years before I arrived, and I spent a year or two learning the land and what was already here.
The Windy Garden is located in the western Virginia, in Zone 7. There are squirrels, chipmunks, deer, black bear, woodchucks, and a myriad of birds in our area. The lay of the land and the positions of buildings make for several micro-climates, as well.
